Ear Piercing Guide for Diwali’s Festival of Lights

Vancouver’s Festival of Lights Is Almost Here
Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, falls on November 8 this year, with Vancouver’s own Diwali Fest lighting up the Roundhouse Community Centre on November 7. It’s one of the brightest, most joyful weekends on the city’s calendar: strings of fairy lights, gold jewelry, and outfits designed to catch every bit of shine. If you’ve been eyeing a new ear piercing to go with your festival look, this is the perfect excuse to finally book it.
Choosing the Right Ear Piercing
Ears offer more placement options than almost any other part of the body, and each spot heals a little differently and catches light in its own way. A few of the most popular choices we see at the studio:
- Lobe: The classic, lowest-maintenance option, and the easiest to stack with multiple studs or small hoops. Heals in roughly six to eight weeks.
- Helix: Along the upper outer curve of the ear, great for a single statement hoop or a delicate curved barbell. Expect three to six months to fully heal.
- Tragus: The small flap just in front of the ear canal. A tiny gem here catches light beautifully and heals in about two to four months.
- Conch: The flatter inner shell of the ear, perfect for a statement hoop that frames the whole ear. Healing typically runs four to twelve months depending on placement.
- Daith: A bold inner-ear fold piercing that pairs well with a clicker ring. Plan for six to nine months to heal fully.
Building an “Ear Curation” Look
Rather than one piercing, many clients are coming in for a styled combination, often called ear curation or ear stacking: two or three lobe piercings paired with a helix or tragus, finished with a mix of huggies, small hoops, and gem studs. For festival season, gold and warm-toned jewelry pairs beautifully with Diwali’s lights and traditional outfits, while mixed metals and tiny CZ studs give a more everyday sparkle. We can help you plan a curation that balances pain tolerance, budget, and how everything will look together once healed.
Healing Time and Aftercare
Whatever you choose, stick to a saline rinse twice a day, avoid touching jewelry with unwashed hands, and skip swimming pools and hot tubs until the piercing is fully healed. New piercings taken in now will still be tender through Diwali weekend, so if you want fully healed jewelry in time for November 7 or 8, book soon, or plan on wearing your existing piercings for the festival and treating a new one as the next addition to your collection.
