Fright Nights: Halloween-Ready Piercings in Vancouver

Playland Gets Spooky Again
Fright Nights returns to Playland at the PNE this October 7–31, transforming Vancouver’s favourite amusement park into the largest haunt in Western Canada. Haunted mazes, roaming scare actors, and a midway lit up for the season — it’s the city’s unofficial kickoff to Halloween, and it’s the perfect excuse to update your ears before the fog machines start.
At Vansun Studio, we love a seasonal reason to get creative. A well-placed curation of hoops, studs, and chains reads costume-ready without needing a costume at all — something that photographs beautifully under haunted-house lighting and still looks sharp walking down Granville Street the next morning.
Ear Looks for Haunt Season
If you’re heading to the mazes this month, here’s what we’re suggesting in the studio right now:
- Helix and tragus stacks in blackened or antiqued metals for a gothic, worn-in look.
- Chain and dangle combinations that catch the light (and the string lights along the midway).
- A single statement lobe piece — a dark gem or an unusual shape — if you want one bold moment rather than a full curation.
- Septum or nostril additions for anyone building toward a fuller, more layered look before the holidays.
Fresh piercings do need a few weeks of aftercare before they’re ready for a night of screaming in a haunted maze, so if Fright Nights is on your calendar, it’s worth booking sooner rather than later — ideally this week, so healing is well underway before opening night.
Timing Your Piercing Around the Season
October in Vancouver tends to bring cooler, drier air, which is generally kind to healing piercings compared to the humidity of summer. That said, costumes, wigs, and face paint can all interfere with a fresh piercing, so we always walk clients through which placements are low-maintenance enough to wear comfortably through a night of haunted mazes and which ones are better saved for after Halloween wraps up. If you already have healed piercings, this is also a great month to simply swap in seasonal jewelry — dark stones, cobweb charms, or antiqued hardware — without any downtime at all.
Why Book at Vansun
Our studio at 1007 Granville St is built to feel like a gallery, not a clinic: single-use, sterile jewelry and needles, experienced piercers, and a calm space to talk through placement and sizing before anything happens. Whether you’re planning one new piercing or a full seasonal ear refresh, we’ll help you map out a look that heals cleanly and suits your ear’s anatomy.
Vancouver’s Halloween season is short, so if Fright Nights is on your list this October, let’s get your ears ready first.
