Vancouver Fashion Week returns to Howe Street from October 14 to 18, bringing a week of designer showcases and street style to the city’s core. It’s one of the few times of year when personal style becomes a genuine spectacle — and for a lot of our clients, that energy is exactly what pushes them to finally book the tattoo they’ve been sketching out for months.

At Vansun Studio, we see tattoos the same way a designer sees a finished collection: a piece of wearable art that’s entirely yours. Here’s what we’re seeing — and creating — as fashion week season kicks off.

Tattoo Trends Inspired by the Runway

• Fine-line botanical work along the collarbone or forearm — a favourite placement for anyone wearing statement necklines this season.
• Minimalist linework and single-needle designs that read as clean and editorial, much like the pared-back silhouettes on this year’s runways.
• Bold blackwork accents on the hands or wrists, worn the way a stylist might use a statement cuff — small in size, big in presence.

Placement is everything during fashion week: sleeves, ankles, and collarbones all get more visibility when outfits are built around showing them off, so it’s worth thinking about how a new piece will sit alongside what you’re planning to wear.

Planning Ahead

If you’re hoping to debut new ink before the shows wrap up on the 18th, book sooner rather than later — larger pieces need time to heal, and our artists like to spend real time with clients on custom designs rather than rushing them. Smaller flash pieces are a great option if you want something fresh in time for the week itself.
