Thrill Ink: Tattoo Ideas for Fright Nights Season

The City Is in a Spooky Mood — Lean Into It
Fright Nights takes over Playland at the PNE from mid-October through Halloween, and the rest of Vancouver is matching the energy with haunted museum nights, horror film screenings, and candlelit artisan markets across the city. It’s a season built for bold choices, and every October we see that spill over into the kind of tattoos people want to commit to.
If you’ve been circling an idea in your notes app since last Halloween, this is the stretch of the year that tends to push people from “someday” to “booked.”
What We’re Drawing This October
- Fine-line botanicals with a dark twist — nightshade, black roses, and moths rendered in delicate single-needle work.
- Classic horror homages — small, stylized nods to the films and folklore people grew up with, done as clean linework rather than full illustrative pieces.
- Bold blackwork ornamentation — geometric or mandala-style pieces that hold their shape and read clearly from a distance, the kind of design that looks as good under haunted-house lighting as it does in daylight.
- Script and symbol pieces — a word, date, or small symbol that carries personal weight, placed somewhere it can be shown off or covered depending on the day.
Every piece starts with a conversation about placement, size, and how the design will age, not just how it looks in a single photo. Our artists work across styles, so whether you want something stark and architectural or soft and illustrative, we’ll help you land on a design that’s actually yours.
A Studio Built for the Conversation, Not Just the Needle
Vansun Studio is set up to feel like a small gallery rather than a clinical shop — a space where you can sit with reference images, talk through sizing and placement, and not feel rushed into a decision just because the season is busy. That’s true in October as much as any other month.
Booking Before the Season Gets Busy
October and early November are consistently our most-booked weeks of the year, so if you’re hoping to get inked before the season turns, now’s the time to reach out. We keep consultations unhurried, even when the calendar fills up fast.
